"Rust" assistant director David Halls broke his silence following the Oct. 21 fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins. The incident also injured director Joel Souza.
“Halyna Hutchins was not just one of the most talented people I’ve worked with, but also a friend,” Halls said in a statement to the New York Post. “I’m shocked and saddened by her death. It’s my hope that this tragedy prompts the industry to reevaluate its values and practices to ensure no one is harmed through the creative process again.”
Halls added that he’s been “overwhelmed by the love and support." Halls said, “my thoughts are with all who knew and loved Halyna.”
On Oct. 21, Baldwin was rehearsing a scene for the Western-genre film when he discharged a firearm he believed was unloaded and the projectile struck and ultimately killed the cinematographer. Halls, who handed the gun to the actor, also believed the gun to be unloaded, per investigators, and told Baldwin and the crew that there were no ammo or blanks in the firearm.
